The challenge this week at The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog is BIRTHDAY WITH A SENTIMENT. You need to have a birthday sentiment on the front of the card.
I used this adorable image named Chinese Food. I chose this image because the birthday card is for my daughter, Stephanie. If you've read the posts for Stephanie's birthday and Valentine cards over the years, you know she has a disabled kitty, named Allie, who uses a cart because her back legs don't work due to a spine injury. Allie loves to sit with Stephanie and watches tv with her. Allie also loves human food and sits next to Stephanie begging. If you'd like to read about Stephanie and Allie, you can click on here, here, here, and here. Anyway, this card depicts Stephanie and Allie and I knew she'd love a card with this image!
The beautiful flower rhinestones in the corners are from Lillian in Michigan. She went to a convention and visited the Queen & Co. booth. I love their products...but then again, I like shiny. :) The peach pearls are from my stash of pearls. I love pearls maybe because they're my birthstone. The doily die cut is by Cheery Lynn and I cut it out of heavy white vellum. The sentiment is by Lili of the Valley and I used a Stampin' Up punch on the sentiment.
I colored my image with Copics and these colors are pretty accurate...Allie really is tan and gray and Stephanie does have red hair and brown eyes (and eats on her tan couch in front of the tv).
My flowers are from Wild Orchid and so are the leaves. I put glitter on the edge of each petal for some pretty glittery shine (glittery shine is always good). The stamens I found in the cake decorating aisle at JoAnn's and I added glitter to the tips of them, too. BTW, did you notice my paper has some glitter on the flowers in the pattern...and you wonder why I like this paper?! I like it so much that I even used it on the card posted right before this one--although it was a true accident since I made the cards a couple of months apart! I used solid green and solid peach papers on my card to accent the printed papers.
I made my two stickpins and used some of my best crystals, pearls and sterling silver on these knowing that Stephanie would appreciate them. I haven't yet gotten her into beading...but I'm working on it. It would be nice to call and place an 'order' for stickpins that I'd like for my cards. Hahaha!
And this bow...well, this ribbon is from my teammate, Eva Gro Røsok in Norway. It's beautiful ribbon with shiny edging and a gorgeous texture. Eva sent me a box of ribbon and I sent her a box of lace! It was fun to do since we have different products here in the USA than they have in Norway. The cat face is actually a button from Dress It Up. The button was plain light tan and I colored it with my Copics to match Allie. I clipped off the back loop and then glued it in the middle of my bow.
So, as you may have heard, if you use an image from The Paper Shelter and win the drawing, the prize is a $30 gift certificate to the store. If you win and haven't used a TPS image, you get 3 digital images. You might want to use an image from TPS because your luck is that you'll win the one time you don't use a TPS image and regret it. Take a look at the images at The Paper Shelter and I promise you'll find an image (at least one) that is so versatile that you'll use it more than once! Remember that they come in black and white, color, a color background, and then a colored image ON the colored background. You get a lot for just a little investment!
The gals at The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog have created gorgeous projects for you to look at and, hopefully, inspire you. The challenge is BIRTHDAY WITH A SENTIMENT and we all need those during the course of the year, so let's see what you can create for this challenge!
Thanks for visiting today!
Hugs,
Gail

What a great looking card Gail. It's perfect. Can't believe that your daughter have a blue tortie cat. They are both adorable to look at and the way they act are always sweet and cosy. I used to have a black tortie cat a few years ago, sweet but with a temper. LoL How great to hear that she manage a good life even if her legs isn't working. Really sweet!
