Looking at this card you would never imagine what I have reused and recycled....the purple foil background. It's wrapping paper from a present this past Christmas! It was so pretty that I saved the part that hadn't gotten wrinkled!
I've used my favorite punch on this card and have used it many times in the past! It's a border punch by Martha Stewart and it's called "Doily Lace". I used silver glitter paper, doing both sides of my strip of paper, and then put rows of red rhinestones on top of it. The rhinestones are in rows of 2 so I ended up cutting down the middle of one row to get the 5 rows you see here. I used a set of round and scalloped punches by Marvy on the sentiment.
I used a Spellbinders die to cut out the red metallic diecut around the image, as well as another one out of white cardstock, and I used an oval diecut on the image itself. My tip on this card is that when I put the red diecut against the purple wrapping paper, I needed something between the two for the color red to pop. So, I die cut another fancy oval Spellbinder die out of white cardstock, cut it across the middle and then slid the upper half of the white paper up a bit under the red die cut and then slid the lower half of white paper down a bit so there's a white shadow border behind the red fancy die. I love the color red and when pairing it up with this purple, it's a combination that really pops.
My image is colored with Copics and I added Stickles to her pom-poms, the red stripes on her socks, hair scrunchie and cheer outfit. The 3 ribbon flowers below were absolutely perfect to use on this card since they reminded me of pom poms! I can't tell you how many years I've had these 3 ribbon flowers and they've been waiting to be used. I'm sticking to my 2015 resolution about using my beautiful craft items that I keep saving for the perfect project! Did anyone else make a resolution to do the same thing?

ReplyDeleteFabulous make as always Gail..... xo Nikki
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty card, Gail! This is not a colour combo I have ever used but it looks wonderful! Your recycled wrapping paper is beautiful and no wonder you saved it! I do that too! Your flowers and die cuts are gorgeous! Yes, I read through your whole post - I especially liked your tip! And yes I did make that resolution. I even used one of those sweet butterflies you sent me recently! Baby steps! One thing I have pledged to use this year is my washi tape. I have a collection/hoard but I'm making a concerted effort to finally use it - I think I've used it on 3 cards this month alone. Wishing you a joyful day!
ReplyDeletePerfect colouring Gail! a lovely card and recycled too, how clever, you've done a great job on this, love it!

You are SO correct, Gail -- I would never have guessed what your recycle item is -- your card turned out as fabby as always !! Perfect coloring, and all your embellishments touch it off so much more. Yes, we all should really concentrate on using more of our crafty supplies, instead of trying to hoard them -- that's also what I've been trying to do this year - use those oh-so-pretty items, as well as using items I've had in my stash for far too long. You have an awesome birthday card here, my dear.
