Make It Colorful!

There's a new challenge at The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog that I know you'll like. MAKE IT COLORFUL using bold and bright colors--no pastels or soft colors!  I found there were lots of images at The Paper Shelter that would fit this challenge and I chose Lifeguard on Duty 2. I think this image could be my 'selfie'.  Hahahhaha, just kidding...my hair is longer.

My sentiment is an oldie but goodie from Hero Arts and I cut it out with my nesting circle punches and then a scalloped punch. The oval nesting dies are by Lifestyle and the swirls are by Taylored Expressions and I cut the red and blue swirls out of paint chips that I 'borrowed' on a trip to Home Depot. The seashells are by Jolee's Boutique and the papers are by Whimsy. I used a brad in the center of the bow.

The sailboat is a die by Whimsy and I cut 2 white ones out and glued the papers together. Then I cut a sail out of the striped paper and glued it on top of the white main base. then I cut out a yellow boat and glued that on. Then...getting tired of reading this?...Then, I took a white sharpie and went around the entire sailboat for an outline and even colored a mast. The last thing was to color the flag red with a red gel pen. The sailboat is nice and heavy and firm and reminds me more of a cardboard cutout texture. It won't bend or crease if I mail this card anywhere.

I'm a supply collector. I bought this paper in January 2013 when I was a GDT for Whimsy and just now opened the paper pack; the seashells are a gift from my fab husband from Christmas 2013 (I don't use many stickers but didn't have the heart to tell him so I've kept them on my table for 16 months figuring I'd use them some day and be sure to show him that I did so he'll give me more supplies in the future, only now he knows more of what I use and like); the sentiment stamp is from 2012 when I bought a set of Hero 'summer' stamps in a plastic container at Hobby Lobby because I wanted ONE of the stamps in the container (and now I don't know which one I wanted or why); the rope is something I bought at a convention in the early 2000's (and I have no idea why I bought it then, but it's coming in handy now!); and, the ribbon comes from a Christmas package I received this past December and couldn't bear to toss it because it's wired and beautiful red satin.

My hint to everyone:  You MUST collect paint chips on your trips to Home Depot, Lowe's or anywhere you see them! I mean, seriously...they're fabulous for diecuts since they're heavier than cardstock and have a wonderful finish to them!  I've even seen them used as card bases. So when it comes to supplies, I'm your girl. If I don't have it now, I did at one time and either used it up or gave it away. If I never had it...well, then it wasn't worth having.

My image is colored with Copics (I LOVE HER TAN--do you like her toenails painted red?) and I applied Glossy Accents to the binocular lenses. There's a touch of Wink of Stella on her whistle and on the binoculars.

  1. Hi Gail, absolutely love your card its just stunning, the srong colouring and the whole card design is just fabulous. You call the our colour strips, colour chips I wondered what you meant but I now understand you, they are just fabulous for matching up colours youve already used when you want a bit to touch up. Mind you I ought to get a move on and give the whole house a going over, but when you get to my age you really dont feel up to it. hugs Shirleyxxx

  6. Your card is definitely colorful . . . also patriotic and nautical. I love everything about this -- the rope, the seashells, the flourishes tucked behind your bow, and the sailboat - omg, it's perfect with the striped sails!! You've colored (and tanned and pedicured) the image very well. Awesome array of nautical papers on this fabby card. Your creations are always AMAZING.
